When you come to OVC you will quickly find a warm, friendly group of people committed to making church exciting, life-changing, and enjoyable. There are services for the whole family that include wonderful contemporary worship, a time of biblical teaching, and an opportunity to make a decision to follow Jesus Christ. The service is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes in length.

After the service we invite you to join one of our pastors on the patio as we look forward to meeting you personally and answer any questions you might have. We encourage you to come as you are - attire is casual. What is most important to us is that you come and experience what God wants to do in your life.

What to Expect

Our Core Values

  • BIBLICAL AUTHORITY: We believe the Scriptures to be the inspired Word of God and our final authority for all Christian faith and life.

  • WORSHIP: We are committed to expressing our love to God in all that we say, think, and do because He is worthy of all honor and praise.

  • PRAYER: We pray depending on God with confidence and expectance. We believe that prayer is the decisive blow in spiritual warfare, and ministry is the act of harvesting the results.

  • DISCIPLESHIP: Evangelism – We strive to reach the lost, unchurched, irreligious, disillusioned, and skeptical with the gospel of Jesus Christ so they will see, hear, and understand what it means to be a child of the Living God. Edification – We lead believers into a deeper personal walk with God through worship, prayer, Biblical instruction, and ministry involvement. Equipping – We seek to multiply ourselves by mobilizing competent, surrendered, and Christ-centered champions to minister the Word of God to the world.

  • AUTHENTIC AND LOVING RELATIONSHIPS: Compassion and Caring – We love unconditionally, listen with sensitivity, and assist the poor, sick, unlearned, addicted, lonely, helpless, and hurting. Community – We believe accountability, a sense of belonging, personal care, and spiritual growth happen best with relationally connected believers.

  • CULTURAL RELEVANCE: Practical Teaching – We focus on addressing the needs of people in ways they consider "helpful." We adapt our ministry to current needs and trends in American life, without compromising Biblical absolutes. Diversity – We celebrate the differences found in the South Bay and are a church for all peoples.

  • MISSIONS: We believe that every believer is called into full time ministry by God and we are intent on taking the Gospel of Christ across the street and around the world.

What We Believe

  • We believe the Holy Bible was written by men supernaturally inspired by God.

  • We believe there is one, and only one, living and true God.

  • We believe the Holy Spirit is a divine person; equal with God the Father and God the Son and of the same nature.

  • We believe Satan was once holy, and enjoyed heavenly honors; but he fell and after him a host of angels.

  • We believe in the Genesis account of creation, and that it is to be accepted literally, and not allegorically or figuratively.

  • We believe man was created in innocence, but by voluntary transgression fell from his sinless and happy state.

  • We believe Jesus Christ was born of the Holy Spirit, in a miraculous manner of Mary, a virgin.

  • We believe that the salvation of sinners is by grace through Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

  • We believe that in order to be saved, sinners must be born again; that the new birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus.

  • We believe that Christ rose bodily the third day.

  • The command to give the Gospel to the world is clear and unmistakable and this Commission was given to the churches.

  • Scriptural giving is one of the fundamentals of the faith, and we believe tithing is for today.

This is a summary of beliefs; if interested in a full doctrinal statement, please contact us.

After high school, he attended Drury University on an academic scholarship where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. In 1990 he married his wife Christa and began a career in the digital media industry. During this same time, Steve and Christa entered the ministry as the middle school directors at High Street Baptist Church in Springfield.

In 1999, Steve was selected by Sony Industries to the Top 100 Multi-media Designers list. Shortly thereafter, he sensed the call of God on his life and joined the HSBC team as a full time pastor.

Since then Steve has pastored in all areas of ministry and with all ages. Steve is a passionate Bible teacher and disciple maker at heart. He is a master at delivering dynamic and creative illustrations along with memorable power statements and catch phrases. He started a sports ministry outreach that grew to become a vibrant connecting point between the community and church that served over 1,200 players a year. He and his wife have personally discipled close to 50 full-time missionaries, pastors and vocational ministers. He has served on multiple ministry boards incuding missions, youth, sports outreach, and church leadership organizations.

He recently took the position of Lead Pastor at OVC after having been the Executive Pastor at Midway/OVC for over 7 years.
